THE FRIENDLY FIRECRACKER

Lauren Maglio DiLascio was introduced to cosmetology at a very young age. At 15, she was a shampoo assistant in a salon. She later headed to Mercy College to pursue higher ed. “I was in college trying to figure out what I wanted to do. I had no idea. I was blindly just getting my degree. 

After she graduated with her bachelor’s in psychology, she realized she didn’t want to leave the salon. “I felt like this was something I could do,” she shares. 

She earned her cosmetology certificate at Capri Cosmetology Learning Centers in Nanuet. But she still refers back to her behavioral science background today. “You have to remember, psychology is hairdressing, and hairdressing is psychology,” she laughs. 

What drew her to working in the industry was a mentor early on who had the capability to make clients feel comfortable by fostering a welcoming and affable environment. DiLascio took note, and followed in her footsteps. “She taught me to make people feel like you’re with them.”

DiLascio, who has a bubbly persona and an infectious laugh, possesses the same superpower of making even the most timid client feel comfortable in her chair. “[My clients are] like family. I always think how would my mother or my sister feel,” she says.

While she can strike up a conversation with anyone — “I can talk to the wall,” she jokes — her work speaks for itself. 

The Goldwell Master Colorist has perfected her craft over the last two decades, and has the accolades to prove it: She was voted by the readers of Westchester Magazine as the county’s Best Colorist in 2018.

She excels in Brazilian blowouts, flawless color, and seamless hair extensions (she is certified with BELLAMI and SO.CAP.)

Her ability to create a beautiful transformation transcends the physical appearance. She shares, “Giving someone a new feeling of confidence, self love, and excitement makes me so happy.”
